New Photos

Andrew is doing well eating solids. He is eating them for two meals a day and will start three this weekend. He likes to grab the spoon and chew on it, but I have to be careful because he has almost gagged himself a few times.

The weather here is turning colder and the days are getting shorter. I'm not ready for winter! We haven't needed our scarves or heavy jackets yet but there is definitely a chill in the air.

I will never live this down. Daddy was right, I was wrong! Jason has been encouraging me to start Andrew on solids. I have been hesitant because the health visitor advised waiting until 6 months. Andrew is just now 5 1/2 months. He wasn't really showing the classic signs they say to watch for either. Then this week he started waking in the night (a classic sign). So I told Jason if Andrew woke again last night, we would try solids today. And Andrew did. For lunch today he had baby rice cereal. The boy devoured it. You would have thought we hadn't fed him in a week! So, I guess he was ready. Here is the video of him eating and some pictures.

Last week Andrew got his first tooth. It is on the bottom. It is so funny to see it now when he smiles. He also got a new toy: a ring. It is great because he can sit up but is still able to move around.

New Scream

Andrew has discovered a new scream. To be honest, I am not very fond of it. It is not a happy squeal. It is full of frustration. I'm not sure if he is actually doing it because he is mad, wants my attention, or just because he figured out he can. In one moment he will be screaming and the next smiling. On this particular day he was doing it quite often. I hope he forgets about it soon and moves on to something else :)

Happy Boy

Andrew is already charming the ladies. He is winning hearts with his big eyes and smile. We were at Costa yesterday for a coffee and Andrew kept smiling at one of the workers. She came over a few times to talk to him. She thought he was the cutest thing (of course we think so). Watch out girls!

Two Down, Hopefully None to Go

Andrew had his second hernia operation on Thursday. This time it was on the right side. The doctor told us last time that there was a chance that it would happen on the other side, and it did. Andrew couldn't eat after 7:30 in the morning and his surgery was at 2:00pm. I was prepared for hours of screaming, but he did so well. We paced the halls of the hospital for distraction and he stayed very content. He was even charming the nurses with his smiles and talking. They took him for surgery at 1:45pm and I went to get him a little after 3:00pm. He had general anesthetic this time so he was out cold for about 2 hours after the surgery. He nursed a lot that evening (mostly for comfort) and slept from 11to 5. He woke up at 5am with bright eyes and a smile. We were walking through the hall around 7:30 that morning and two doctors who had just come on shift passed us. Andrew smiled big and squealed. One replied something like "You sure are bright this morning. We're still trying to wake up." He was pretty much his normal self Friday, except for wanting a few more cuddles. I won't object to that! We are thankful that all went well.

So, 2 surgeries by the time he's 5 months old. Hopefully we've gotten hospital visits out of our system. It's not likely though. If he gets his dad's daring side and is mom's clumsiness we may be in trouble!!

Saturday outing and a new toy

On Saturday we went to the Pet's Corner at Hazelhead Park. Andrew enjoyed seeing the different animals.

A friend let us borrow her jumper. Andrew loves it.

New Games

We have discovered two new games to play with Andrew. Who new a bib and a blanket could be so much fun! He played the bib game for at least 20 minutes last night.

This will cheer you up!

If anyone needs cheering up today just watch this video. You'll be giggling by the end. This is one of our friends playing with Andrew in the mirror.

Andrew is now big enough to face forward in his Snugli. He loves going for a walk and taking everything in. Daddy was less than thrilled that I made him stop for this pic, but he hid it well!

Andrew is in this awkward stage where he can't sit up yet, he is almost too big for his bouncy seat, and he doesn't like laying flat on the floor because he can't see everything. So I have been propping him up to sit or helping him to sit up. His mind is so active but his body doesn't always do what he wants it to do.

Everyone has commented lately on how bright Andrew's eyes are and how social he is. He loves for people to talk to him. He was squealing and talking to a lady and her daughter in the doctor's office the other day. It was so cute.

This is Andrew and Daddy's balancing trick.
