Trip to Durham and York

Last week the three of us took a trip to two cities in England. The first was Durham. It has a beautiful cathedral. What Jason failed to mention was that it also had very long, steep hills! This was great fun with a buggy (stroller).

Andrew is happy in this first picture, not mad.

Next we went to York. It was originally founded by the Romans in the late 1st Century.

We visited the York Minster, a Cathedral. It was amazing! The pictures do not do it justice. It is so big that we couldn't get the whole thing in one picture. We toured the inside, as well as the crypt and treasury below.

I took these two pictures to show the width and height of these pillars.

This picture shows the Roman wall that surrounds the old part of the city. You can walk all the way around the wall. The Minster can be seen in the background.

This is one of the gates to enter the old part of the city. It is called Bootham's Bar.

One of the museums gave us this carrier for Andrew. He thought it was fun...for about 10 minutes!

One afternoon we went to the Railway Museum. Andrew and I went on a miniature train ride. This is funny now that I think about it because Andrew has been on plenty of real trains!

Wedding in Ireland

June 1-3 Jason and I took a trip to Ireland to attend a wedding. The bride is Irish and the groom is Scottish. Andrew stayed behind in Aberdeen with close friends of ours. He did fine without us but was happy when we returned.

The wedding was lovely. It was fun for us to see the Irish and Scottish traditions.

Yes, they are cutting the cake with a sword. This is not tradition, but something this particular hotel does.

Neither Jason or I really enjoy dancing. However, we do enjoy the ceilidh (pronounced kay-li) dancing they do here. It is similar to square dancing. We both danced, but never together!

Here are some scenery pictures of the area where the wedding took place. It was rainy and foggy the entire time we were there! Thankfully it was mostly dry on the day of the wedding.

Trip to the States

We have just spent two weeks in the States. 9 flights and 3 States in 12 days! We may be crazy...but we had a great time. It started off with Jason's Aunt's wedding in Houston. Jason performed the ceremony. He did a great job.

Next we flew to Arizona to spend a few days with my family. It took a while for Andrew to warm up to the dogs, but by the end he was playing with them. He liked the cat, but the cat wasn’t so sure about his loud squeals.

Enjoying Cold Stone ice cream.

Then we headed to Kansas City to visit with Jason’s family. Andrew loved playing outside in the nice weather. We ate dinner on the deck a few times. Andrew enjoyed corn on the cob and watermelon.

One afternoon we played in the sprinkler.
